Lustre Dust - Cover your cake with sugarpaste. Immediately after covering and smoothing, place the stencil on top and roll over the design gently. Using dry lustre dust and a sponge, gently rub over the design. This technique will only work if the sugarpaste has pushed up into the design and the stencil is not moving. If your sugarpaste is dry it will not work.
Royal icing - Cover your cake in advance and allow the sugarpaste to harden, ideally overnight. Place your stencil on the top of the cake, cover the design part with royal icing and then scrap away. The best texhnique is to hold the stencil with one hand while applying the royal icing and scraping away with the other hand. Lift the stencil off.
